I'm a penguin expert, author and educator dedicated to raising awareness and funding to help save rapidly dwindling penguin populations.
After working closely with penguins for nine years at Boston's New England Aquarium, I founded The Penguin Lady, through which I provide educational programs about penguins for children and adults. I donate a portion of the proceeds from every appearance to penguin rescue groups.
My recent book, The Great Penguin Rescue, chronicles the remarkable rescue of 40,000 penguins from the Treasure oil spill in South Africa. Having worked as a rehabilitation supervisor during this historic event, I witnessed first-hand what is possible when people come together to help save a species in distress. More than 12,500 volunteers donated 556,000 hours of labor - as a result, 95% of the penguins survived.
THE GREAT PENGUIN RESCUE: 40:000 Penguins, A Devastating Oil Spill and the Inspiring Story of the World's Largest Animal Rescue was published by Simon & Schuster's Free Press imprint in October of 2010. I am donating 20% of my proceeds from the book to penguin rescue and conservation groups.
